Juan Cantavella wins People's Choice Award

Juan Cantavella was announced as the winner of our People's Choice Award for August at the Opening Reception for our September Show on Saturday, September 7. His painting titled "Celos" depicts a porcelain ceramic with a rose at the bottom of the bust and, laying in the foreground, a real rose. Celos, in Spanish, means jealousy... subtle message that the manmade rose cannot measure up to the delicacy, the scent and the beauty of the rose that nature created.

This is the third award in our monthly People's Choice series and can be seen hanging in our courtyard as an enlarged reproduction of the piece. The courtyard banner will remain on display through November as our featured banner which changes each quarter.

A new exhibition is now on display in the Gallery. Come in and vote for your favorite for the September People's Choice Award which will be announced in October.

Conroe Art League sales go International

Connie Lupo took CAL into international sales when a visitor from Finland purchased four pendants in her new jewelry line that combines an encaustic wax process with jewelry making materials for a unique look.

Connie said, "These four pendants were purchased by a lovely man from Finland who is visiting the U.S., as gifts for the people caring for his cats while he is away from home. I’m more thrilled that my creations will be gifts for pet sitters, than I am about the sale itself! Add to it that they were purchased by a kind visitor from Finland to our country, and I’m walkin’ on sunshine!"

Sales top $2,000 for the August Show

Congratulations go to all our artists who had sales in our August show. Joyce Beckwith and  Lois Blackburne both sold floral pieces that contributed over $1,300 to that total.  Be sure to stop in at the Gallery as we approach the upcoming holiday season. There is nothing that can compare with a unique, one-of-a-kind piece of art as a gift from the heart.

Dianne da Silva wins the July People's Choice Award

Dianne da Silva was announced as the winner of the People's Coice Award for July at the Opening Reception for the August Exhibition. The piece, titled "Seafaring Son", was painted during a visit from her son who is usually traveling the open seas. Dianne saw a different side of her son during this visit... a rough and tumble sailor on the outside but with a tender, caring heart inside.  She set out  to capture that in her portrait and our July voters obviously agreed.

A one-of-a-kind artist award, the Madeley Award, was presented at the Conroe Art League (CAL) Artist's Reception on Saturday, July 13th, 2019. Mary Ann Madeley Metcalf, the granddaughter of Daniel Madeley, the original owner of the historic Madeley building and current home of the League, presented the award to Gary Hernandez, a CAL member artist and instructor in their lineup of classes.

The Madeley building, located in downtown Conroe, was built by Albert and Daniel Madeley in 1911. The historic 107 year old building has been both a meat market and headquarters for a local telephone company. After being abandoned and left in disrepair, the building was purchased by the City of Conroe and extensively remodeled. In 2011, the City announced that the Madeley building would become the permanent home of the Conroe Art League Gallery./p>

“What a surprise and an honor to receive the Madeley Award" for my painting "A Warm Gaze" surrounded by the Madeley family, commented Hernandez. The award presentation was certainly a family affair.”
