This is the 8th Annual 12x12 Art Show and Exhibition. 89 - 12” x 12” pieces of art were created and donated by our talented CAL members. Each panels is being auctioned to raise money for the student art show awards held on May 6, 2023. The auction went live on Saturday, January 7th at 11:00 am and we have already raised over $5,ooo. We have until the 27th to meet our goal so please visit, bid, and/or share the link with art lovers.

Take-In/Out will be Tuesday, January 31st from 11 am - 4 pm. Don’t forget to sign up for your docent shift in February or March.
This is a regular member show, so be sure to register online and sign up for your docent shift prior to dropping off your artwork (here). Registration is required online and no later than Monday evening at 8:00pm, January 30th. Please review the rules for displaying in the gallery (here).

The raffle items for January have been donated by Kerry Conkling. Included in the "Downtown Abby Gift Basket" is "Lady Catherine and the Real Downtown Abby" book, "Tea at the Downtown Abby" recipe book, Mrs. Pattmore's Downtown Abby scones mix, Queen's Rusamund china tea set, all to paired with tea and marmalade.

This year 225 artists entered 560 pieces of art for the 2023 CAL International. Juror Annette Palmer has selected 70 works from those applicants. Artists were notified this week if they were chosen for the show, so check your email if you applied. Please come, view, and share this spectacular show with friends and family through the month of March. The $5500 in awards will be announced to the winners at the March 11th reception.

MURAL OPPORTUNITY – Work with the Conroe Service League by volunteering time by working to create a mural on the Bargain Box building located at 123 Thompson St in Downtown Conroe. COMMUNITY OUTREACH – CAL has joined with the Magnolia Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) to offer an Art/Literacy program to children in the after school program at the City of Conroe Oscar Johnson Center. This program is divided into four sessions with each session including the reading of a story about a famous artist followed by a related art project. This program was developed by Linda Prince of DAR and Debra Riley of CAL with Rebekah Billings creating the art project. The first session kicks off in January and we are very excited to be a part of bringing art and literacy to these children.

THE ARTS IN DOWTOWN CONROE

GREATER CONROE ARTS FESTIVAL 2023 The Greater Conroe Arts Alliance will be hosting their Annual Greater Conroe Arts Festival on Saturday, March 18th, 2023 from 10:00-4:00 at Founders Park in Downtown Conroe. There will be food trucks, fine art for sale, live music, plus plenty of activities for all ages!
If you are interested in helping at the Festival, we will need volunteers to help with the community participation mural, art booths, *Plein Air painting, and more, please register at https://www.greaterconroeartsalliance.com/festivalvolunteer
*The Plein Air paintings painted at the Festival will be donated to the Greater Conroe Arts Alliance and auctioned off at the end of the day. Plein Air Artists are welcome to bring a few paintings to sell (at their painting area) and give out their info while they paint.
