SUMMER SPECIALS FOR TEENS, KIDS - AND ADULTS


The Conroe Art League has a new series of special summer offerings, including workshops and lessons for teens and children.

MONDAY, JULY 17 - FRIDAY, JULY 21 - “Art around the World” is the fun theme of a summer camp for kids ages 7 through 14. The camp is directed by Rebekah Billings, an experience instructor for children’s art education. The camp will be held at CAL’s  Madeley Fine Art Gallery from 10 a.m. to noon. Enrollment is limited to 20. Register now.

SATURDAY, JULY 22 - “Introductory Approach to Gesture Sketching” with artist Ken Roy provides an instructive workshop to sharpen drawing skills, from an initial gesture to a sketch of the figure in 3 to 5 minutes, working with a live model. The class lasts from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is limited to 10 students. Enroll now.

THURSDAYS THROUGH AUGUST - Continuing on Thursday through the summer, CAL will offer an introductory course in sculpting, “Let’s Play with Clay: Sculpting 101,” presented by accomplished sculptor and instructor Donna Rodgers. Students will be creating fruit, animals, and flowers, working up to a whimsical face relief. The class meets from 9 a.m. to Noon, and c\lass size is limited to 10.

COMING THIS FALL -Dynamic Portraits with Jesse Lane.
 Learn the secrets of turning colored pencil into a fine art medium…. creating works as rich and nuanced as any oil painting. Registration is moving rapidly with enrollment half filled, so sign up soon.

CAL IS STUDIO READY

A new benefit to our CAL members is the addition of Studio 127.  Located on the second floor of the gallery, it will offer members the equipment and setup for photographing, or painting from life, still life arrangements. Studio 127 can be used by 2D and 3D artists that want to photograph their pieces. Reserve the studio for yourself, or for yourself and a member friend to work together.  Reserve your spot with Debra Riley at gallerymanager@conroeartleague.com.

COURTYARD SCULPTURE PROGRAM

You can read about the program here and the registration information is included on the Take-in/Out page. Please be sure to register with Bob Heintzelman prior to end of September.

The sculptures on display is a ceramic water fountain by Carol Berger, and fused glass butterflies by Loraine Tomon.

 

ARTIST IN ACTION - IN GALLERY

To participate, artists must be a CAL member and provide all their own supplies/equipment and clean up when finished.  

Artists are expected to be working on their art in the gallery from 5:00 to 7:00 and may bring samples of their art for sale.  All sales go through the CAL system with 20% going to CAL.

ARTIST IN ACTION - IN PLEIN AIR

This free event is a great opportunity to get outside of the studio and experience natural lighting and great company. You must be an adult member of CAL to attend. The monthly painting series will occur at numerous locations around Montgomery and adjacent counties. Artists that participate in 3 plein air events will be able to hang a piece of their plein air art on the feature wall of the Madeley Fine Art Gallery in February 2024.  (No fee - 1 docent shift required)

AUGUST TAKE-IN/OUT

August is an open Member Show and we are excited to see what our members have been working on.  Take-in for all art (including shelf art) will be Tuesday, August 1st from 11:00 to 4:00pm.  Registration on-line is due not later than Monday, July 31st, at 6:00pm.  Please register your art/shelf HERE and sign up for your required docent shift(s) HERE.

ARTIST DEMO

 

The August Demo Artist will be Donna Rodgers.  She will give an Introduction To The Art of Sculpting.

ARTIST RECEPTION

The August reception will be at 6:00 pm following the demo on

Saturday the 8th, and ending at 8:00 pm.

Juan Cantavella’s piece “Lady With Red Foulard” was juried into the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society’s show “33rd Best Of America” to be held at the Principle Gallery in Alexandria, Virginia, in August.

Carol Scheferman’s piece, The Tempest” was juried into the Visual Art League of Lewisville’s show, Fresh Ideas 2023, and will be on display July 15 to August 19. 

Donna Rodgers was juried into her first show, The Lubbock Arts Festival, for her sculpture “Reflecting God’s Grace – Harry Carpenter”.

Brenda McDougall had art juried into both the Plan Art Association 125 show and the All The Inks exhibit in Round Rock, TX.  

Carol Scheferman’s piece, 'Girl With Blue Scarf’ is at the Gilpin Arts 76th Annual Juried Art Show in Colorado until August 19.


 

George won a first place ribbon.

George Bramlett and Wendy Moreland were both had art juried into the Archway Gallery for their annual juried show.

Wendy won Honorable mention.

Wendy Moreland had two pieces juried into the Abstraction show t Ardest Gallery.

CAL 2023 FALL JUDGED SHOW

REGISTRATION BEGINS AUGUST 7, 2023 AND CLOSES AUGUST 28, 2023.

AWARDS:  Announced at General Meeting on October 7, 2023

All Texas artists are invited to enter. Winners of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 1HM, Best of Show, Best Landscape, Best Floral, and Best Student will be invited to participate in the LSAG 2024 Regional Show next summer. Artwork over 2 years old is not permitted. Previous LSAG winners are not eligible for future LSAG shows.
