Juan Cantavella was born in France, but his family fled to Venezuela early on for livelihood reasons, where he pursued his education and eventually attended architecture school. In 2002, he relocated to America in search of new opportunities. Starting in 2004, Juan began painting murals in private homes and businesses. Over the years, he pursued self-instruction through books and instructional videos, continuously improving his knowledge and technique while working as a muralist. In 2014, Juan settled in Montgomery, Texas, establishing his studio and focusing on painting professionally full-time.
CAL is proud to call Juan Cantavella a member and instructor. Although he is much more than that.. Juan also holds memberships in esteemed organizations including: Portrait Society of America, Oil Painters of America (signature member), National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society (signature member). We have the pleasure of seeing multiple of Juans works in person during the month of August because he is the Featured Artist. He offers a mentoring session on Fridays/Saturdays, a painting class on Saturdays from 9am-11am, and facilitates a non-instructional portrait group on the 1st and 3rd Fridays from 10am-1pm.
