Introductory Approaches to Gesture Sketching: from initial gesture to a sketch of the figure in 3 to 5 minutes with Ken Roy.

The workshop will focus on the introduction and demonstration of three practical, functional approaches to gesture sketching that express  rhythm, establish balance, and create structure by using expressive lines, personal graphic language, proportion, and landmarks of the body.

You will draw from a live model (Vivian Kalinov) from 1 p. m. to 4 p. m.

The Madeley Fine Art Gallery at 127 Simonton St.

Ages 18 and over; all experience levels

$50 for CAL members; $90 for non-members

Class size is limited to 8.  Don't miss out!

Supply list

Paper: either copy paper (letter or legal size) or newsprint (rough or smooth, in any size that you find comfortable).  If you can't decide between two sizes, go with the larger size.

Drawing implement, your preference, and these are recommended: pencil (no. 2 is fine), charcoal pencil (2B), willow charcoal, pastel pencil or stick (hard), conte pencil, or Cretacolor lead holder, with either sanguine oil or Nero drawing leads.

Markers are not a good choice because they will bleed through the paper, and this will make the reverse side unfit.  The idea is that both copy paper and newsprint are cheap, and both sides can be used.
