THE FUTURE OF THE JC AWARD

In April 2019 Juan Cantavella approached the CAL Board and proposed he donate earnings from his CAL classes in the amount of $400 per month to a monthly award as his means of “giving back”. After a period of time several members donated to keep the award going in Juan’s honor.  Those funds will be exhausted after the May 2023 Juan Cantavella Award.  If you would like to see this program continue, please consider donating to the JC Award fund.”

This link can be used for making donations:  https://www.conroeartleague.com/Donations

These items are for sale in the gallery and all proceeds go to fund the Juan Cantavella Award to help keep it going.

BANNER WINNER

The quarterly banner winner was chosen by Judge, Nancy Gaertner, President of Wynn Art Center in Hunstville.  Judge Gaertner selected from Loraine Tomon’s "Floral Surprise", Brett Hall’s "Rememberance = Resolve", and Jimmie Shealey's “Wednesday Night Read”. Congrats on being selected for the banner Brett!

CAL IS STUDIO READY

A new benefit to our CAL members is the addition of Studio 127.  Located on the second floor of the gallery, Studio 127 will offer members the equipment and setup for photographing, or painting from life, still life arrangements.  This can be used by painters, photographers, and 3D artists that want to photograph their pieces.  One segment of the equipment is by Replica Surfaces and you can see a short video here.  Reserve the studio for yourself, or for yourself and a member friend to work together.  Reservations are made by contacting Debra Riley at gallerymanager@conroeartleague.com.  Debra will schedule the studio calendar and provide you information about using the equipment.

ARTIST IN ACTION

Will not be held in March, but will resume in April.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We are looking for a couple of folks (ie. a videographer, editor, and host) to facilitate making a docent training video.  This would aid for our docents and fill in any gaps or updates. We plan to have the video on the website so members could view it at their leisure.

Any 2023 graduating senior attending a school in Montgomery County-public, private, or homeschool-is eligible to enter art in the competition. The student does not have to be enrolled in an art class and does not have to be present to win. There is no registration fee.

Please visit http://www.Conroeartleague.com for further eligibility and registration information. All artwork and registration forms are to be delivered to the Conroe Art League on Friday, May 6, from 1 to 5 pm.

Judging the open theme artwork will be Cynthia Reid, an artist and art educator.

The winners will receive $2,500 for 1st place, $2,000 for 2nd place, $1,500 for 3rd place, $1,000 for 4th place, $500 each for places 5th through 8th, and $100 each for ten honorable mention awards.

The $10,000 in award money was raised by the Conroe Art League's 8th annual 12X12 Auction.  Over eighty art league artists working in varied styles and media created mini-masterpieces on 12" square panels that were auctioned in an online auction during January, 2023.
