Dr. Mohammad Ali Bhatti graciously agreed to visit the Madeley Fine Art Gallery Wednesday, January 3rd, in order to determine the Select 12 art works among the 80 plus creations by CAL artists for the 10th annual 12X12 auction to benefit CAL's Student Awards program.

FINALISTS HAVE BEEN CHOSEN
|
|
The CAL International juried show received 643 entries from 242 individual artists. The entries came from 36 states and three countries outside the US.
Accepted artists were notified December 27th, with 23% of the artists who entered being CAL members and 30% of those members juried in the show. Nice representation!
March 2nd is the last day work will be accepted at the gallery. The CAL International will be on display from March 5th through 30th. Then, on the 14th, the juror will view the work and select the top four winners. Good Luck!
You are invited to attend the artists’ reception and announcement of awards: 6 pm to 8 pm, Saturday, March 23, 2024.

COURTYARD SCULPTURE PROGRAM

The sculptures on display are Metal Ace by Claire Lewoczko, Running Man Tribute by Randall Cade, and Watchtower Series #3 by Mark Frary.

ARTIST IN ACTION - IN GALLERY
|
To participate, artists must be a CAL member and provide all their own supplies/equipment and clean up when finished. Artists are expected to be working on their art in the gallery from 5:00 to 7:00 and may bring samples of their art for sale. All sales go through the CAL system with 20% going to CAL.

ARTIST IN ACTION - IN PLEIN AIR
|
|
|
|
AIA Plein Air will have feature wall at the Gallery during month of February. Members of the AIA Group should contact Pam Markham asap with size of pieces to display. Work must have been created at one of our group paint outs. Plein air work done at other locations will be accepted if there is space for them. No more than 2 pieces per person, please. Also each artist exhibiting must do 1 docent shift. Gallery hanging rules will apply but there is no hanging fee. Take in February 6th . Must be registered online in advance. A separate registration will be set up for registering this art.

This free event is a great opportunity to get outside of the studio and experience natural lighting and great company. You must be an adult member of CAL to attend. The monthly painting series will occur at numerous locations around Montgomery and adjacent counties. Keep Calm and Art On! Jeff Lung will be teaching Neurographic Art. This class if free to first responders, military personnel, veterans, and any adult that has experienced trauma. Each Thursday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm beginning February 15th. All supplies are provided. Limited to 10 students. Get more information or sign up here.

CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION
|
|
This is a first for CAL! CAL has collaborated with the Dragon Bowl in celebrating Chinese New Year with a variety of displays and events. The street will be closed to traffic and there will be entertainers, a DJ, vendor tents, a lantern raffle, and other exciting events. If you can volunteer on the 24th, there are several tasks listed above in need of your help. Otherwise, feel free to decorate and donate a red lantern. Lanterns can be picked up at CAL and need to be returned by February 16th. Volunteers should contact zoe@zoewhiteart.

Take-In is Tuesday February 6th, from 11:00am to 4:00pm. Deadline to register is 6:00pm on Monday, Feb 5th. February is a member show, for take-in register HERE. Don't forget, artists need to sign up for docent shifts too.

Juan Cantavella is the demo artist for February. He will demonstrate the various ways to start painting a portrait.

The February reception will be at 6:00 pm following the demo on Saturday the 10th, and ending at 8:00 pm.

The Madeley Fine Art Gallery is a sponsor of the Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival held on April 12, 13 and 14, 2024. Having a presence at the festival will allow us to showcase details about what we have to offer the surrounding communities. We will be looking for volunteers to cover shifts working in the tent giving out information about CAL and the gallery. Those interested should contact the Gallery Manager. A new benefit to our CAL members is the addition of Studio 127. Located on the second floor of the gallery, it will offer members the equipment and setup for photographing, or painting from life, still life arrangements. Studio 127 can be used by 2D and 3D artists that want to photograph their pieces. Reserve the studio for yourself, or for yourself and a member friend to work together. There will be fine art vendors, live music, food trucks, a Kids Art Village, plus much more that is sure to entertain ALL ages!
