CAL FALL 2024 SHOW

Dates to Remember:

Venue: CaFe.  This is a virtual show.

GET YOUR FRESH WHITE PANELS

Every year CAL members donate their talent and time by creating a masterpiece on a 12” x 12” panel that is then auctioned to raise money for our Student Awards Show in May.  In 2024, we raised over $11,000 which was awarded to high school seniors in Montgomery County to help further their art education. 

Panels are available for pick up in the gallery during normal business hours and are due back not later than December 28th.  Panels that are completed early may be turned in to the Gallery Manager - but no wet work, please.

COURTYARD SCULPTURE PROGRAM

The third quarter sculpture show begins in July. Each sculpture must be at least 24" tall, able to withstand outdoor weather, and not present a danger of any kind.  There is no fee but you must work one docent shift.  To propose a piece contact Bob Heintzelman at rdheintz@hotmail.com.  You can read about the program here and the registration information is included on the Take-in/Out page

The sculptures currently on display are:  Mark Frary's "Galveston" on the left and Bob Heintzelman's "Big Yellow" on the right.

ARTIST IN ACTION - SIP & SHOP

 

To participate, artists must be a CAL member and provide all their own supplies/equipment and clean up when finished.  

Artists are expected to be working on their art in the gallery from 5:00 to 7:00 and may bring samples of their art for sale.  All sales go through the CAL system with 20% going to CAL.

ARTIST IN ACTION - IN PLEIN AIR

 

On location painting sessions add a special, fresh quality to these paintings and the time spent painting outdoors is cherished by the AIA members who participate. There is always room anyone who would like to join us. 

The next outing will be at Cynthia Reid's residence on September 18th. Please contact Pam for her address.

SEPTEMBER TAKE-IN/OUT

The next take-in for gallery floor and wall art will be Tuesday, September 3rd, between 11 am and 4 pm. Please be sure to register here by 6 pm on Monday the 2nd.

Jewelry/Bins/Cards Take-In is Monday, September 2nd, from 11:00am to 2:00pm.   Deadline to register is 6:00pm on Sunday, September 1stPlease register for those only here.

DEMO ARTIST

Join us for the September demonstration by Wayne McDonald. Wayne will share the story of his journey with art and how he and his work have changed through the years. His goal is to influence us to see art in different ways and quite possibly inspire us to take our creativity to new levels.

Support Montgomery County high school seniors and the student art awards by making a donation to participate in the drawing.

Purchase your tickets in person at the general meeting.

 

This month the raffle items, donated by an anonymous donor, will be a Palette Garage, Wet Painting Carrier by Art Cocoon and a $25.00 gift certificate to Michael's arts & craft store.

ARTIST RECEPTION

The September reception will be at 6:00 pm Saturday the 7th,

and will be ending at 8:00 pm.

FEATURE WALL

August's Feature Wall Artist is Juan Cantavella. His paintings are offered as a silent auction, so stop into the Gallery and bid on your painting before the end of the month. You may also call the gallery manager at 936-520-1861 to place a bid during normal business hours. That is Tuesday - Saturday 11 am - 4 pm. The highest bidder by 4pm Friday August 30th, will secure the artwork. Winners will be notified after the close of business the 30th. You are welcome to meet the artist Saturday the 31st during the reception and pick up your new piece.

 

September's Feature Wall Artist is Zoe White.

LSAG Regional Show is open to artists who qualified in certain previous art league shows, and a letter was sent out by LSAG to all these artists. If you are one of the winners and want to enter, click here

 

Carol Scheferman's "Ancient Chinese Tradition", "Memories" and "Calloway", and Judy Mackey's "White Jockeys" have works in the Oil Painters of America’s Online Spring Show.

 

Juan Cantavella is in the September/October 2024 issue of Artists Magazine.

He is featured in the article “Make A Point, Use the Power of Perspective to Express Your Vision”, as are a couple of his paintings. Try to pick a copy up or order it online.

ARTISTS OPPORTUNITIES

 
 

The Magnolia Rotary Club is having their annual natural resources event on November 9th from 11am to 3pm. They are looking for a local artist that focuses on nature and wildlife that would like to have a booth to showcase their work. The booth space is 10 x 10 and only $25. CALL FOR 2025-26 GALLERY EXHIBIT APPLICATIONS AT THE WYNNE HOME ARTS AND VISITOR CENTER

The Wynne Home Arts and Visitors Center (1428 11th Street, Huntsville, Texas) is currently accepting applications for exhibit consideration for 2025-2026 in the Lela Mae Brown Wynne Gallery. Artists or art collection owners must submit an application for art exhibition and provide the requested information by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024.

Applications are available online (https://www.huntsvilletx.gov/1123/Artist-Call-2025-2026), can be picked up at the Wynne Home during regular business hours, or by sending a request to Cultural Services Manager, Andrea Howard via email ahoward@huntsvilletx.gov. Completed packets will be accepted by mail, via email, or dropped off at the Wynne Home during regular business hours, Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our 2024 Helix Park Adirondack Chair Art Contest, which invites artists of all skill levels to capture our state's diverse elements—culture, friendship, environment, education, health, and innovation. We call upon all artists to participate in transforming Adirondack chairs into remarkable works of art, enriching TMC Helix Park with creativity and community spirit. The top 3 winners will have their chairs displayed and voted on by public guests during the October Odyssey event on October 25, 2024. The 1st place winner will be announced the same day and will receive a $1,000 check.TMC Helix Park

Painting Rules:

  • Designs must be original and suitable for public display.
  • No offensive, obscene, or controversial content.
  • No religious or political references.
  • Only paint can be used; no other materials can be affixed to the chair.

CAL IS STUDIO OPEN

A new benefit to our CAL members is the addition of Studio 127.  Located on the second floor of the gallery, it will offer members the equipment and setup for photographing, or painting from life, still life arrangements. Studio 127 can be used by 2D and 3D artists that want to photograph their pieces. Reserve the studio for yourself, or for yourself and a member friend to work together.  Reserve your spot with Debra Riley at gallerymanager@conroeartleague.com.
