Participate, Share, and Celebrate the Arts

GALLERY HOURS

Remember: the new hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm.

New docent shift times are 11:00 - 1:30 and 1:30 - 4:00.

REMINDER:  THE GALLERY WILL BE OPEN LATE FOR THIRSTY THURSDAY ON OCTOBER 28TH ALONG WITH OTHER DOWNTOWN CONROE MERCHANTS.  COME ON DOWN!

THE FINAL RECIPIENT

The final votes have been counted and the final recipient will be announced at the October general meeting. That's right, this program has come to an end. 

We wish to thank Juan Cantavella for starting this program in 2019 as a way to “give back”.   Juan has funded the $400 award most months with few exceptions (12x12 and National shows for example).  

Many CAL members were touched and challenged through this program.  Congratulations all People Choice winners.

MONTHLY GENERAL MEETING

The next general meeting will be held on  Saturday, October 16th. It will be at 4:00 pm followed by an artist demonstration by Donna Rodgers on sculpting.

ARTIST RECEPTION

The October reception will be Saturday the 16th, from 6:00 to 8:00, after the general meeting. On display during this reception will the the work created by the students of Gary Hernandez.

NOVEMBER TAKE-IN/OUT

Next take-in/take-out: Tuesday, November 2nd. from 10:30 - 4:00. 

Be sure to register online and sign up for your docent shift prior to dropping off your artwork (here). Registration is required online and not later than Monday evening, 8:00pm, November 1st.

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER AITC

CAL members, sign up to exhibit your artwork around the city, particularly the Chamber of Commerce and the First Financial Bank.

University of St. Thomas selects three pieces of art in their "HOPE" art contest.  Congratulaions Gene LeRoy, Julie Wright, and Wendy Moreland.  Stop by the USTMAX campus in downtown Conroe to see the winning art.

Julie Wright was selected by the Wan Bridge Group to give a live painting performance on October 20, 2021 at their open house in Montgomery for the new development, Lakeside Conroe.

Anthony Walz attended the Friday Portrait Painting Group with Sa’mechee Taylor as model.   Anthony used that study to create this painting of Sa’mechee.

12X12 TIME IS APPROACHING

 
 

Support Montgomery County high school seniors in their artistic pursuits.  Our members are busy creating their original 12x12 art pieces to donate to this good cause. Interested in taking part?

We still have panels available if you have not signed up yet.  Stop in the gallery and sign out your panel at the docent desk. 

Panels are due at the January take-in.

CAL NATIONAL HAS GONE INTERNATIONAL

The CAL National has spread it's reach and for next year's show, on view March 1st, international applicants will now be accepted.

The call for artist is open and ready for entries. The deadline for the show will be December 10, 2021. Enter your drawing, painting, photography, mixed media, and/or 3D here.

CLASSROOM IMPROVEMENTS

CAL has been making improvements to the classroom and gallery.  Floor easels, table top easels, professional lighting, risers, chairs, stools, tray tables, projector and projection screen are some of the latest additions.  There will be more to come with plans to purchase window coverings, PA System, and office computer.

Congratulations about CAL member, Judi Lanza being elected the new President of the GCAA.

The Conroe Symphony Orchestra will perform a Matinee Christmas Concert at the Willis ISD Performing Arts Center on December 18th.

WORKSHOPS

Learn new tips and tricks within a few days

A great lineup of 2022 workshops is coming soon!  

We are going to start off the year with Professional Artist, Susan Hotard, in January.  Susan will conduct a two day workshop on creating a still life painting.  Another workshop on our radar is "Quilling" with Wendy Moreland.  Watch your email for more details and check the CAL website often for new workshops.
