A message from the C.A.L. President

At the August general meeting the winner of the August People’s Choice and winner of the Banner Award for September, October and November were announced. I received questions after the meeting about how the process works, and this overview is intended to answer those questions and add further clarification how the process works.

Reminder: Our next general meeting to be held via Zoom

SUPPORT LOCAL STUDENTS

AND WIN A GREAT TRAVEL WATERCOLOR KIT

CAL has a history of supporting our young local artists by raising funds to help Montgomery County high school seniors further their art education.  Part of that effort, prior to COVID 19, was a monthly drawing at our general meeting.  In order to keep the donations coming in for the students, we have set up an on-line donation and give-away.   In September you could win this great little travel watercolor set in a repurposed cigar box by Wanderbox.   The kit includes watercolor paints, brush, water bottle, paper, pencils, pen, pencil sharpener, spray bottle, and more in a great little cigar box the perfect size to carry with you.  To make your donation and earn a chance to win this great gift, click here.  The lucky winner will be announced at the September general meeting.

ART12 AUCTION

It is never too soon to start your 12x12 panel for donation to the ART12 Fundraiser 2021.  This event is our main fundraising event with all proceeds going to the High School Students Awards show in May 2021.  Panels can be checked out now through the Docent at the gallery and will be turned in on January 4 and January 5.  The auction will be held on February 27th.

Update your profile photo and show off your art

We want you see your mug.

As a member you can add a photo of yourself and upload images of your art into photo albums on your profile page of the CAL website and make it viewable to the public.  It's your own on-line gallery!

Please click here to add your photo(s).

CHRISTMAS IS FOR GIVING

Now is the time to start sifting through your paintings and select items to go into the annual Christmas Is For Giving show to be held during December.  All items are to be priced at $150 or less.  CAL will donate 20% of the sale to the Salvation Army’s Toyz 4 Kids program.  Take-in for these items will be November 30th and December 1st

Watch for more details to come.

PRIVATE GALLERY SHOWINGS

AND FACETIME SHOPPING

Would you like to see the current exhibit in the gallery or do a bit of shopping without encountering large groups of people?

CAL is offering private showings for small groups before or after regular open hours.  The gallery will be sanitized before you arrive so your showing will be as safe as we know how to make it.

If a private showing is still too risky for you, how about some FaceTime shopping?  You can tell us what you are looking for and we can walk around and show you up close on your phone via FaceTime.  Please email gallerymanager@conroeartleague.com to schedule a private showing or FaceTime shopping.

SPOTLIGHT ON C.A.L. MEMBERS

Many Thanks and Congratulations to

our generous and talented members.

Former CAL member Clara McDonald Masterson passed away on August 4th.   Her obituary stated:  “Of the thrills of her life, being a member of both the Conroe Art League and the Cut ‘N Shoot Art League, lit up her life for years.  She filled her home with paintings of birds, seascapes, mountains wildlife, and portraits.”

The C.A.L. family sends it's deepest and heartfelt condolences to Clara's family and friends.

The People's Choice Winner for August is Lois Blackburne's oil painting titled Stampede

Come see this powerful piece. It will be hanging as the courtyard banner during September, October, and November.

Featured Artists Wanted

Who wants to be a CAL Featured Artist?

There is a new page on our website highlighting our artists that use the photo album feature for showing their art on-line.  The general public will be able to see your art along with your bio and a description of each piece of art.   There is a link they can use to message you directly about purchasing the piece.  Purchases can be arranged directly between the member and the purchaser, or you can ask CAL to handle the transaction for you.  If you want CAL to process the transaction, sales tax will be included and a 20% donation will go to CAL.  If you handle the transaction directly with the purchaser, we suggest a donation to CAL for helping to make your art visible to the public.  For an example of current Featured Artists, click here.  If you need help setting up your albums, contact Martha at membership@conroeartleague.com.  For help with a sales transaction contact Debra at gallerymanager@conroeartleague.com.

Follow this Facebook Group to find out about the CAL Artists Circle that meets virtually twice a month.  This month the group had guest artist, Vickie McMillan Hayes, speak about her art journey and her “Marketing Strategies”.   This group is open to all members as well as non-members and is a great way to stay engaged in all things art.
