Current Gallery Status

The gallery is open, and the monthly members' show is on display.  You’re invited to visit the gallery from 10:30 to 2:00 Tuesday through Saturday to view the wonderful art our members have been creating since we last had the doors open.

Keeping mindful of safety precautions and practices necessitated by the continued presence of Covid-19, the take-in team planned a “limited contact take-in process”. We care about our community so social distancing markers, acrylic shield at the docent desk and other safety exercises are being observed. In practical terms, take-in activities of registration, payment, name plate ordering, and docent shift sign-up were made possible by an easy and efficient online process.

SPOTLIGHT ON C.A.L. MEMBERS

Many Thanks and Congratulations to

our generous and talented members.

Reminder: Our next general meeting to be held via Zoom

 Saturday, June 27th, 10:00am

People’s Choice monthly competition will resume in July.  June show is up with over 30 pieces of new art on display as well as new jewelry, pottery, and wearable art in the display cases.

ART IN THE CITY

Art in the City is growing and spreading beauty with the help of our talented artists.

Lois Blackburne is displaying 25 pieces of her magnificent works on the Gallery Wall of Woodforest Bank in Conroe.  This showing has received high praise from bank personnel and customers.  Support Lois and Conroe Art League by coming to the bank to view.

First Financial Bank in Conroe is displaying four additional paintings by Lois Blackburne, Wayne Allen, and Vickie McMillian. Sam Baker, the President of the First Financial Bank system, has requested additional artwork in the future. I know we can meet that challenge!

We also have our artists displaying five pieces of artwork at Conroe City Hall and are working towards three additional pieces for The Chamber of Commerce.  The artwork in City Hall has been created by  Wendy Moreland, Robert Enesco, and Wayne Allen, while the artwork hung at the Chamber of Commerce is created by Jan Saunders.

We are expanding Art in the City so please contact Jan Saunders at jmsaunders7268@aol.com or education@conroeartleague.com to register as soon as possible.

Another first for CAL this year was to accept the entries for the 2020 Student Show online. Forty-two Montgomery County high school seniors (public, private and homeschool) submitted 116 images. Just Around the Corner

We have completed the banner to be donated to the Treehouse Center in Conroe.  Presentation to be made later this month.  The girls from the center chose their favorite painting, by Linda Jackson, and we created the banner to be hung inside the center where they live.

... Further Around the Corner

Last fall at the Figurative Art Convention & Expo (FACE), Russian artist Nikolai Blokhin led a portrait painting demonstration on the main stage of a convention that was teeming with artists.

When Blokhin’s portrait painting (right) was available for auction, attendees Charles and Mary Peterson bought the masterwork.

Each spring, the US House of Representatives and Congressional Institute sponsor a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated in the Congressional Art Competition.

This year students from the Eighth District of Texas submitted their entries to Congressman Kevin Brady’s District Office in Conroe in April, and Kristine Schneider was honored to be one of three judges to judge the 8th District Congressional Art Competition this week.

We need volunteers and donations for

KIDS MULTI-ART CAMP

Conroe City Camp for Kids will take place during the weeks of June 8-12 and June 15-19. Every year the Conroe Art League plays Host for the kids to come to the Gallery, do an art project and explore the Gallery then have an exhibit for them and their parents.

Due to the restrictions of occupancy because of the Coronavirus, CAL will not have an exhibition of the children's work this year but is helping with an art project for their scrapbooks on Wednesday June 17th. In May 2020, the Conroe Art League donated 2 trunkloads of scrapbooking materials to the Conroe City Camp for Kids.

Charman Clevenger is the lead coordinator from CAL for decorating the covers of their books and is asking for volunteers on Wednesday, June 17 from about 9 am to 1 pm. She can be contacted at charmanc@eastex.net  or 713-252-8402. This is part of our Outreach Program for the City of Conroe. Thank you in advance for your participation.
