New Gallery Hours

Beginning July 7th the Conroe Art League Gallery at the historic Madeley Building will be open 10:30 am - 5:30 pm from Tuesday through Saturday.

More Gallery Information...

EFFECTIVE JULY 3RD FACE COVERINGS ARE REQUIRED FOR ENTRANCE TO THE GALLERY AND THE CLASSROOMS.

What hasn't changed for now?  The gallery will continue to be closed on Friday evenings, and there will be no reception or general meeting in the gallery in July.

While the gallery remains closed on Friday evenings, the doors will stay open until 9 PM on the last Thursday of the month through October for an event area merchants are calling Sip, Shop and Stroll.  Some of the eating and drinking establishments will offer live music - and we are planning to as well for the July event; details to come. *Please confirm the event on the CAL calendar because the recent Executive Order by the State of Texas concerning Covid-19 may cause the event to be rescheduled or cancelled.

July Show - Open Member Show take-in July 6 and July 7. Take-In is Monday, June 6, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and Tuesday, June 7, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm.  The July Exhibition will be on display in the CAL gallery throughout the month of July. We are committed to making the transition to an online process for the monthly members' show registration, payment of hanging fees and signing up for a docent shift.  It's easy and it's fast!

PRIVATE GALLERY SHOWINGS

AND FACETIME SHOPPING

Would you like to see the current exhibit in the gallery or do a bit of shopping without encountering large groups of people?

CAL is offering private showings for small groups before or after regular open hours.  The gallery will be sanitized before you arrive so your showing will be as safe as we know how to make it.

If a private showing is still too risky for you, how about some Facetime shopping?  You can tell us what you are looking for and we can walk around and show you up close on your phone via Facetime.  Please email gallerymanager@conroeartleague.com to schedule a private showing or facetime shopping.

Reminder: Our next general meeting to be held via Zoom

 Saturday, July 25th, 10:00 am

Docent Coordinator Wanted

There is a need for a Docent Coordinator to coordinate training and scheduling of docents to keep the gallery doors open. The position may be assumed as either a Chair position on the board or as a non-board position as a team leader. Please contact Brenda McDougall (docentcoordinator@conroeartleauge.com); Debra Riley (vicepresident@conroeartleague.com) or Ken Roy (president@conroeartleague.com).

CAL Brochures Greet Visitors All Across Texas

Our Conroe Art League brochure has been approved by the Texas Department of Transportation for placement in Texas Travel Centers across the state. As visitors come into our state from all directions they regularly stop at the Travel Centers to get information on points of interest on the road ahead. We want to be sure they know about our Gallery and stop by to see us.

We are also distributing the brochure through the Conroe Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (CVB) who includes it in all their information packets used to attract business and inform the groups when they hold their gatherings here.

The brochure tells what we do in three simple words:  Create… for our artists, Appreciate… for our patrons, and Learn for our classes. It also has a panel for new members and another for donors.

You can be a part of getting our story out there as well. We have a supply of brochures at the Gallery. Grab a handful and ask if you can place them at your favorite restaurant, doctor’s office, hotels, stores or share it with your friends and families when they come to visit.

SPOTLIGHT ON C.A.L. MEMBERS

Many Thanks and Congratulations to

our generous and talented members.

The ballot box for People's Choice will again be placed on the docent's desk, and I invite you to visit the gallery to view and appreciate the art and vote for the work you deem to be your favorite.  The winner will be announced in August and awarded $400.

ART IN THE CITY

Art in the City is growing and spreading beauty with the help of our talented artists.

Lois Blackburne is displaying 25 pieces of her magnificent works on the Gallery Wall of Woodforest Bank in Conroe.  This showing has received high praise from bank personnel and customers.  Support Lois and Conroe Art League by coming to the bank to view.

First Financial Bank in Conroe is displaying four additional paintings by  Lois Blackburne, Nancy Binford, and Wayne Allen. Sam Baker, a CAL member and the President of the First Financial Bank system, has requested additional artwork in the future. I know we can meet that challenge!

We also have our artists displaying five pieces of artwork at Conroe City Hall and are working towards three additional pieces for The Chamber of Commerce.  The artwork in City Hall has been created by  Wendy Moreland, Robert Enesco, and Wayne Allen, while the artwork hung at the Chamber of Commerce is created by Jan Saunders.

Art in the City will be changing out the last week of July and the first week of August. Please contact Jan Saunders at education@conroeartleague.com if you would like to participate.

Conroe Art League (CAL) has been approved for a $50,000 award as a part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act through the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).  This grant will provide direct financial assistance to CAL teachers Rebekah Billings Juan Cantavella, Gary Hernandez, and Sara Moons.  CAL is not required to match these grant funds.

The NEA received more than 3,100 applications, and CAL is one of 855 organizations throughout the country that was approved for funds.  Read more about the CARES funding at https://www.arts.gov/news/2020/national-endowment-arts-approves-arts-organizations-cares-act-funding

This is exciting news for CAL and for our teachers.  Congratulations to Rebekah, Juan, Gary and Sara!

CAL received a $1300 grant award from the Texas Commission on the Arts to be used for operational expenses as a result of the CARES act.  This award was also a non-matching grant.

Texas Commission on the Arts received $668,500 in CARES Act relief funds from the NEA. TCA split the $668,500 in NEA money among about 500 Texas arts organizations. CAL was grateful enough to be one of them.
